The Ycademy September Seminar will focus on building a personal publishing network and then to link it with other networks. The goal is to increase visibility and impact on Google and other Search Engines as well as on aggregators.
According to the YORGOO Publishing Model we are looking first at a three level in-house structure; thereafter we link with external networks.
Here we consider namely
This topic will be explained and implemented during the seminar.
SEO will be a special issue at the Seminar. All participants will use Semiomantics Scripts tuned for aggressive configuration. We will present step by step a recommended configuration for each site on each level.
In most cases, the Author Blog is a Semiomantics XO site with quite a diversified and complex category and tag structure. Authors however tend to specialize on a few main topics (categories) which would constitute the recommended primary categories of the respective newspaper sites.
In fact each newspaper owner provides a particular mix of topics designed to attract the targeted readership. In the ideal case the mix is function of the main interest of the editor and likely to correspond to the main categories in his author blog.In addition each Newspaper editor may add external authors and their content in function of the requirements of the project. Important: only publish content with the authorization of the external authors and respect copyright notices; all participants agree to allow all the other participants to syndicate content from their networks.
Newspaper sites are built on Semiomantics NewsCast or its successor script. The sites are provided and boosted by YORGOO Press.
These sites are traditionally YORGOO Blasters or Boosters. License holders may also use XO or NewsCast scripts for the purpose whereas it is important to take into account the particular editing requirements of these two scripts.
Special Configuration of Blaster or Booster type sites will be demonstrated at the Seminar.
It is of paramount importance that participants prepare their publishing structure before the seminar. This week’s daily calls will help to prepare these structures. Also, we will publish a sample based on my own model and publish it for reference before the seminar.

The Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo 2010 beauty pageant, in aid of regional havens for battered and abused women and children, was officially launched at the begining of May by last years winner, Louise Muller from Mossel Bay (now a B Comm student at stellenbosch University). Louise was crowned as the face of the Garden Route at the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo 2009 gala event.
During the past six years, the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo event presented by the Garden Route Casino in collaboration with Die Burger and the ISP Group, has grown into a community driven event, combating women and child abuse within the Southern Cape. The gala event itself has become a must see of the Garden Route event calendar with excellent entertainment and amazing setting.
The Heart of the competition are the four shelters for abused women and children that benefit from the funds generated through this event. The shelters are Creating Effective Families in Mossel Bay, Phambili in George, Malibingwe in Oudtshoorn and Women Who Care in Knysna. As part of the gala event build up residents from the different shelters get the opportunity to be turned into “a princess for a day” by make-overs conducted in the different towns.

Twelve beautiful girls from the Southern Cape was chosen on Satruday to compete for the Miss Teen Langeberg Mall 2010 title. Last year’s winner Demi-Leigh Nel-Pieters has done very well and she is one of the semi-finalists in the Miss Teen SA 2010 contest.
The gala evening takes place on 9 October in the Mossel Bay Town Hall. Beforehand the finalists will get involved in several projects to generate funds for Child Welfare in Mossel Bay.
During Saturday’s judging session the girls were not allowed to wear make-up or have their hair done. “This is a teenage competition and we wanted to see their natural beauty” Centre Manager, Ms Wendy Bezuidenhout said.
Eight of the girls are from Mossel Bay, three from george and one from Oudtshoorn.

Langeberg Mall Centre manager, Wendy Bezuidenhout hands over a cheque for R10 000 to Hamish Cairns of the Garden Route Casino as part of their contribution to the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo project to raise funds for four Safe Houses for battered women and children in the Southern Cape.
“We have booked a table and plan on having an exceptionally fun evening at the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo Pageant” says Wendy Bezuidenhout, Manager of the Langeberg Mall in Mossel Bay. The Mall has purchased a table of 10 and plan on treating their staff and other role players on 25 September.“This is such a worthy cause where people get involve to better the life and circumstances of abused women and children. We ALL have to do our bit to take this project to higher levels” she added.
Apart from “putting her money where her mouth is” and buying a table to support the Safe Homes project, Ms Bezuidenhout and the Mall have embraced the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo project in more than one way.
Not only have they come to the party in a big way with sponsoring no less than eight make-over candidates from the CEF (Creating Effective Families) Safe House in Mossel Bay and Malibongwe Safe House in Oudtshoorn, they have also donated R10 000 cash in support of the project. Each candidate received vouchers for clothing. The latter was worn in the AFTER photo shoot. The women were allowed to keep the clothing.
“If we can get every business in town to buy a table, the marquee will definitely be too small and the coffers of the Safe Houses will bulge” she added and challenged all the retail businesses to get involve and buy tickets. “The best is that ALL the ticket money go to the Safe Homes and you are still guaranteed a fun evening filled with top artists, beautiful girls, unique designers, celebs as well as eats, juice, wine, magazines and gifts to take home. All of that for only R150. “Now if that is not a bargain in any terms, then I don’t know” she added.

By Zo NicholasAs per usual Ycademy is holding it’s monthly seminar, this month focused on upgrading the publishing network, namely YORGOOpress. For all participants there will be a brand new theme for their Press websites.
Working From Home News has been up and running for well over a year now, since the March Seminar in 2009, every day hitting the desired target on the Google search engine. Since it’s installation we have had numerous updates on both WordPress and the plugins that we use. Over time you begin to notice how a single update on a single plugin can screw up a whole blog, absolutely no fun when then you have to spend time uravelling the disaster. This kind of mess always leaves some traces behind. Things just don’t work as they used to.
Time to re-think and time to change. ““There is nothing wrong with change, if it is in the right direction” said Winston Churchill.
It’s a time to reassess, to discard what’s not working and re-energise what produces results!

Wow, we are doing great on Google! Our new Vegetable Garden Design site has reached Google Top 10 on quite a few of our keywords within 24 hours and we are quite proud about it.
You may ask how we did this? well, in fact it’s an easy issue:
Our WordPress based site is tuned by Semiomantics, and this is miles away from ordinary WordPress. The performance of Semiomantics tuned scripts is a proven issue. As we need fast performance and high visibility on our high traffic keyword, only the best scripts are good enough.
Established 3 years ago, special support for active YORGOO Pros and Ycademy Pros is available. Any new site lacks authority at the beginning. YORGOO Publishing can help any site to climb up quickly on Google as we have shown on many opportunities in the past. I cannot tell you how they do it, but fact is that by hooking our site up with the YORGOO Publishing network, we get a two step effect:
Ad1: here is a screen shot of the performance of our last post:
As you see, 4 of the YORGOO Publishing Network sites rank on Google Top 10, while our new site sits on rank 20 (not visible here).
Interesting is also that Garden Route Publishing is ranking high: the reason is its very broad spectrum of performance as well as may be the domain name which includes the word “Garden”.
What will happen according to the Semiomantics philosophy is that in the beginning the supportive network will score high and after a while our new site will rank ahead of all the other sites of the network.
Look forward – this is just the beginning as we party for our 24 hours of existence
.

By Zo NicholasWhat caught my eye today was a brand new site called Vegetable Garden Designs, just take a look at the photos! Being a bit of a gardener myself and enjoying eating good real food I will certainly be following the progress of this web site on Google.
The new website is based on the latest Semiomantics XO, scripts known for their efficiency, visibility and publishing quality. I have been working with the older version of this script and am interested in following the course of this new script and its rise on Google to Google top ten on a 7+ million keyword.
To be continued……….

Vegetable Garden Designers look at the elements we have listed in our previous post. This post will focus on some of these elements.
When designing a vegetable garden, some basic principles need to be observed as from the beginning. They concern the basic layout of the garden, such as the layout of the hard landscape, such as path, walls, may be a greenhouse, water features and so on.
Further the attention is focused on the layout of the plantation and the plants themselves. vegetable Garden Design takes into account the season-to-season appearance, the growth habit, lifespan and the horticultural needs of the plants.
Designers include into their concepts elements of maintenance, time and money requirements which may impact in the quality, speces, speed of growth and more.
The most important consideration in vegetable Garden design is its purpose and how and when it will be used, followed by stylistic considerations.
All the above is function of the location of the vegetable garden. The influence of the climate, soil and seasonal evolution on the life and growth cycle of the veggies is of paramount importance for the success of the project.
Finally, and I said it before, there is always a financial component to each project. Budget limitations can be met by reducing cost on the hard landscape and by simplifying the design. The choice of plants and their needs of maintenance may have a positive impact as well.
When talking finance we consider as well the amount of time needed to spend on cultivating and maintaining the vegetable garden.
A well designed garden saves time and provides pleasure all along the year.

Evia located north of Attica; it’s the second largest Greek island after Crete. The best known place in North Evia is Edipsos. The curative thermal springs have been known for thousands of years; from the old Greeks to the Romans and more recently to Sir Winston Churchill, Onassis and many other well known personalities.
Sunsets are a beautiful natural spectacle. The ever changing light conditions under the declining sun offer great photographic opportunities and challenges.
Everybody can take sunset pictures, it’s not all that difficult: just point your digital camera and shoot … the automatic settings will do the rest. If you want however take a more stunning sunset, the one that knocks even an ice-bear out of his socks, then you may consider some of the following aspects and try them out.
In order to take a smashing picture, you need dust and or clouds. The red and orange colors result from micro-particles in the air. Dust can come from anywhere, pollution helps to break light, smoke, fog and so on. A second element for great effects are Clouds.
Clouds add structure, interesting light effects and in as much as I am concerned, I prefer the cloudy sky to the straight gradients resulting from a cloudless and dust-free atmosphere.
Look at your scenery and decide what’s more important to you: the sky of the foreground. The more beautiful your sky the more of it you want to ban on your photo. In general it’s of good advise to follow the rule of thirds.
The first image above features two horizons: one in the foreground and one in the back-ground. The foreground horizon is placed about on the lower third line, while the back-ground horizon is at the boring 50% level. The sun is on the first third line from the left.
The second photo focuses clearly on the sky. The horizon is just below the one third line from the bottom.
Applying the rule of thirds will help to focus on the essential aspects of the sunset and adds tension to the image. Of course there are always exceptions and you may find yourself in a situation where the totally balanced and centered approach will reflect tranquility and desired harmony; as usual, it will depend on the story you want to tell.
The sunset is spectacular and usually it becomes more spectacular if it’s seen in an interesting context. The foreground is what often gives the special touch” a few palm trees, a jetty, a bridge, people or most any object which adds a scale to your picture.
For the purpose of this post I add a photo from Kavouri beach in Vouliagmeni, where the focus is on the busy foreground.
Your creativity is the limit.
It seems to be a commonly accepted rule, that foregrounds are represented as dark silhouettes, herefore your flash should be set to “off”. In some cases however it may be interesting to capture some reflections from a foreground, such as the ones you can see on the cars parked at Kavouri Beach or the small reflections from the town in the foreground of the first image from Agios above. Context matters and adds expression.
This is part of your composition. Experiment with the frame; make it wider or narrower depending on the story you want to tell. It’s better to frame when you take the picture than to cut the image in Photoshop or any other image editor. If you use zoom, make sure to remain within the range of your optical zoom and don’t use the digital zoom to preserve a maximum of quality, data and image size.
In Agios I thought there was an interesting frame focusing on the sea, separating the island of Evia from the main land (Attica).
The image is full of harmony, smooth gradients and tints around the golden reflection of the sunset in the sea. The sky is of no importance here; it’s all a matter of light and tints in for my taste, very nice proportions.
This is probably the most important and also most difficult issue, namely with digital cameras. In automatic settings, digital cameras most often use matrix metering which is reflected by an average exposure and results in under-exposed photos. The issue is due to the huge extremes between highlights and shadows.
For best results, it’s recommended to use a a metering device and meter the two extremes as well as the environmental light and average in function of the priority set by your composition and the story you want to tell.
The best advise is: just experiment! There is never just one right exposure as different exposures will produce great results, however the effects are different. Again, it’s a matter of what you wish to express with your picture.
Professionals use bracketing and so may you. Most digital cameras have a bracketing function; when you shoot, the cam will take 3 pictures: one as per automatic or manually set metering, one with one F-stop higher and one with a F-stop lower. Say you take the picture at 1/60 s at f/8, the cam will take a shot at these settings, then one at 1/60s at f/5.6 and one at 1/60 s at f/11. You will then be able to select the most expressive shot.
The trouble is in the highlights. Digital cameras’ sensors are very sensitive to light. The danger consists thus in overexposure of highlights which boils down to a reduced dynamic range in the light areas of your picture (lack of gradients, texture and structure).Your digital camera may have a iHighlight function, which may remedy or different presets for the white balance.
Sunset pictures as well as night photos are interesting subjects for HDR photography: shoot multiple shots from your tripod at different settings and mash them up in Photoshop with the HDR feature. The trick may help as the extreme light zones and the extreme darks may your camera cause to think for you (and that you definitely don’t want …) and select either priority. The camera’s choice will most often result in a loss of dynamic range throughout the spectrum, namely if you are shooting with a lower end point and shoot cam.

Tomorrow, our call we will focused on Image Editing. For this exercise we need one photograph in original format as shot.
I order to be able to advise call participants individually, I would like to ask you to select your image (can be most anything, landscape, monument, animal, flower, portrait) from your collection and attach it to an email and send it to my email at yorgo(at)yorgo.net. Please make sure you send a photo as shot without any editing, cropping or clipping or filtering. Don’t even add Lightroom camera calibration filters.
Please send a shot which has been taken without zooming. In the worst case just set your cam on automatic and take a shot out of your next window without zooming and send that one.
The earlier you send your picture, the bigger the chance that we will have time to edit it and to help you with presets or filters which may serve your camera calibration and ’standard filtering’ for quickly develop and edit your pictures.

High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDR) is a ” set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminances between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods” (Wikipedia).
The below exercise is a simple test, using only two images with different exposures.
Balux Glyfada 1
The image has been taken inside a room exposing it to feature the colors of the interior. As you can see, the consequence of properly exposing the interior leads to over exposed areas, namely on the table and then all over the background where we basically see only white.
Balux Glyfada 2
The interior is underexposed, however the background or the exterior area shows colors and details as the metering is set to render a clear image in the background.
Glyfada Balux HDR
After the merger we end up with a nice compromise which can be adjusted in post editing. Lightroom did a good job on the background as wel as on the table where we get now some of the blueish shine as a reflection from the external tones.
Balux Glyfada edited
For the purpose of this test I have just darkened the tonal range of the highlights a bit to see a real contrast to the previous image.
HDR imaging has become an easy task with Lightroom 3, even for beginners. The difference between the first and the last photo is simply smashing. The ability to edit HDR in Lightroom with just a few mouse-clicks will help many amateurs to get a more professional look to pictures featuring interiors.
Of course it’s also a great feature for night photography or anywhere where improved dynamic range cannot be reached with just one shot.
This and more we will demonstrate live and exercise with the participants at this week’s Ycademy calls as an add on to the Ycademy Seminar which took place during the past week-end.

I have tried for a while: blogging from the iPhone using just the normal WordPress application and then expecting results. here is the problem: when you use the iPhone appi to post to WordPress, your editing tools are limited. If you are used to Semiomantics standards when editing, the WP Application is definitely insufficient… or was I wrong?
The new Semiomantics XO Media script can act as a converter.
Here is my test set-up:
in stead of posting directly to my main site, I post to a new Semiomantics XO Media site, which is configured to convert the post into a Semiomantics standard format. That converted post is then fed into the main blog.
Of course the next challenge was then to build the converter directly into the destination site. Test site is my Yorgo Nestoridis site.
Result: absolutely smashing.
The first test post was this after-noon’s McDonald’s joins Garden Route Directory. Target key-words: “McDonald’s (or McDonalds) Garden Route” and we hit the top of Google right away!
Half an hour later, when the post has propagated half way through the YORGOO Publishing network, the result changed …
It changed, but not really that much and by tomorrow it will change again. Worth while noting: the original post has been published first at Yorgo Nestoridis (.com).
With this successful conversion Semiomantics reaches a new milestone in ‘mobile publishing’.

The trial run at the restaurant and theatre will be on Saturday 4 September and the community has been invited to come and enjoy a FREE show on that evening. The theatre has already come up with a star studded line-up. Some of the productions will include the new Nataniël show, which is at present playing to full house capacities at the Emperor’s Palace, the Buddy Holly Show, Vulcano with On-Que and the premier of Steve Hofmeyr’s latest show Duisend en Een to name but a few.
Casper de Vries has also committed himself as well as Sharleen Surtie-Richards with her local Shirley Valentyn and theatre diva Sandra Prinsloo with her sell out performance of Die Naaimasjien. The Kalahari Restaurant Theatre will change the cultural atmosphere in the Garden Route – that is for sure.
Bookings for shows can be done at the Kalahari Theatre in the Old Game Centre in George or at Computicket.
